Being a Euro Parent

Being a Euro Parent

Today I spent my entire morning helping my kid at pre-school.

She is not a friendly kid and we were worried how she will adjust to school. Last week Indu was managing her, and since  my wife's leave is over, I was in charge.

Eurokids  is a reputed pre-school and though I was sceptical at first, I think they are doing a good job. It costs a bomb about Rs 28,400 for 3 trimesters. My parents never spent that kind of money on my entire schooling, and may be not even for my college education. That's another story.

Most kids coming from nucleus families find it difficult to adjust for the first few weeks, and my daughter was finding it difficult too. It's pretty heart wrenching to find your own child crying, but I am told that by the end of 2nd week most kids start adjusting to the new environment.

Pre-Schooling is a big thing. I unfortunately never experienced it, as in 70s the concept was unknown in most of rural Kerala, where I was growing up.

The promoter of the pre-school was making us feel the importance of pre-school education, as it is the most influential period in a child's upbringing. She even claimed that a child can learn up to 30 languages during the period.

Ammu ( my daughter) was finding it difficult, since as parents we never exposed any language other than her mother tongue. No teacher at the school know Malayalam, and she needs to now pick up her lingo very fast.

I'll post some pictures soon.
